Photos of Coventry hotel that wears city pride like a badge of honour

A boutique style hotel, Indigo has all the expectations of a usual hotel - a variety of rooms, including suites and premium options , a gym, a bar and a restaurant.But one of the things that stands when you enter the hotel, is how obviously proud it is to be a part of Coventry. The city's various industries and pop culture moments are all celebrated, from the motor industry and watch making, through to the city's impact on the music industry through the 2-Tone movement - Indigo would make even the most self-hating Coventrian feel some sort of pride.The style is what you might call industrial-chic, which sounds odd, but it is sleek and stylish but subtle enough so you don't actually feel like you are in a manufacturing plant.Read more: Coventry and Warwickshire what's on news delivered straight to your inbox - sign up for freeRead more: 'Godiva After Dark 2026': all of the venues taking part and when this weekendWe'd been assigned a super king bed suite that was simply stunning. The room is split into working area, sleep and relaxation - a mini fridge and coffee machine are at your disposal.Artwork and accessories in the room reflect Coventry's industrial past. A huge TV comes out of the wall and greets you by name when it is switched on.The huge en suite includes twin sinks and a separate shower and a standalone clawfoot bath. Combined all of this made the room comfortable and practical - subtle and never veering into needlessly flash. The décor is thoughtful and classy with a bed that just swallows you up. It is probably one of the most beautiful, well put together hotel rooms I've been privileged to stay in.The venue has recently installed a new hotel manager and a new head chef, so our stay allowed us to sample a brand new menu.Cogs Bar and Restaurant is part of the hotel but you don't need to be a guest to dine. This section, also heavenly air conditioned, is open plan and integrated. So if you choose you can sit and watch the food being prepared.The nods to Coventry and its history can even be seen here - my dining partner opting for a Peeping Tom burger (£19) for main, having enjoyed incredibly indulgent spicy pork belly bites (£8) to start.The burger comprised of grilled chicken thighs, streaky bacon, guacamole, tomato and gem lettuce - it came with thick chips and a dressed salad garnish. It was well stacked and so deeply filled eating it traditionally was tricky - a knife and fork coming to the rescue.I stayed at top ranked Coventry hotel and didn't want to leaveI had prawn and chorizo pil pil (£9) to start. It came with crusty bread and a peppery salad garnish. The dish was swimming in the flavours from the Spanish sausage and the prawn, the bread soaking it up delightfully.For main I had half a spatchcock chicken with chimichurri (£21) which came with wonderfully crispy fries and a salad. The chicken was well cooked with plenty of moisture within - the exotic flavours seeping through, and permeating from the smoky chimichurri crisped skin.Dessert was dark chocolate brownie with salted caramel ice cream (£8) for me - an indulgent delight to end the meal. My dining partner, at the advice of the charming hotel manager, had the sticky toffee pudding - a classic and nostalgic treat that did exactly what it said on the tin.
